Subscribe at another country’s price with an Apple Gift Card

Apple’s route is a genuine country change on your existing Apple Account, plus a VPN pointed at that country at checkout and a small first payment to prove the chain works. Apple only allows the change once nothing on the account still points at the old country.

Store requirements checked Oct 8, 2026 General information — confirm the current rules in your own store account before you change anything.

Before you change anything

Apple publishes this checklist. Every item on it blocks the change until it is resolved.

  • Spend your remaining Apple Account balance. If it is smaller than the cheapest item in the store, use Apple’s “clear a low balance” flow.
  • Cancel any subscription that blocks a country change, then wait for it to run out. An active subscription is the most common blocker.
  • Let pending activity finish: memberships, pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes and pending refunds.
  • If you are in a Family Sharing group you may have to leave it first.
  • Have a valid payment method for the new country ready. Without one, Apple’s documented alternative is to wait until you are physically there and create a new Apple Account.
  • Some content is not available in every region. Redownload anything you want to keep before you switch.

Step by step

  1. 1. Choose the target region Decide the country from the plan you actually want on this site’s product page, and note its price so you can check the result later.
  2. 2. Clear the old country Work through the checklist above: balance at zero, blocking subscriptions cancelled and expired, no pending activity, Family Sharing handled.
  3. 3. Get a gift card for that exact region Buy an App Store & iTunes / Apple Gift Card issued for the target country. The card’s region must match the account’s region or redemption will fail.
  4. 4. Change the Apple Account country or region On iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region → Change Country or Region. On the web: account.apple.com → Personal Information → Country/Region. Sign in again if asked, and enter the new country’s payment details.
  5. 5. Connect to that country before you pay Turn on a VPN and pick a server in the target country — the same country the account is now set to. Keep it connected while you redeem and while you subscribe. Use a paid provider rather than a free one: free VPN exit addresses are shared, widely blocklisted, and are themselves treated as a fraud signal.
  6. 6. Redeem the card In the App Store, tap your photo → Redeem Gift Card or Code. The balance now sits in the new country’s currency and will cover the subscription.
  7. 7. Subscribe to the cheapest plan first With the VPN still connected, start with the cheapest monthly plan rather than the plan you ultimately want. Compare the amount charged with the price you noted in step 1. Once that succeeds, switch up to the real plan.

If it will not change

The change is blocked while any of these is true:

  • A subscription is still active, or has not reached the end of its paid period.
  • There is still a balance, even a very small one.
  • A pre-order, rental, Season Pass or refund is still pending, or you are in a Family Sharing group without a payment method for the new country.

Start small, then scale up

  • Do not begin with a yearly plan or the top tier. The first payment is a test of the whole chain, not a purchase.
  • Pick the cheapest plan that proves every link: the code redeems, the balance lands in the right currency, the payment clears, the subscription activates.
  • Only after a full successful cycle should you move to the plan you actually want. If something is going to fail, it should fail on a small amount.
  • If a payment is refused, stop and check the account country, the VPN region and the card region before trying again — repeated failed attempts are themselves a risk signal on the account.
